About the authors

John Goodall

Born in England 1943. At Lancing College, he studied modern languages.

Qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1969 and spent 45 years in the construction industry, of which 30 years overseas in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the USA.

In 1969, he married Mahin Rashvand, secretary to the Minister of Agriculture in the Shah’s regime.

Since Mahin’s death in 2020, John has spent much of his time researching and writing his memoir.

Mahin Rashvand

Born and raised in Ghazvin (a city about 150 Kms west of Tehran), Mahin's paternal grandfather was head of the Rashvand tribe while her maternal grandfather ran the horse-drawn city taxi service. His wife owned several local flour mills as well as numerous orchards and vineyards. There being no high school for girls in Ghazvin in those days, Mahin completed her secondary education in Tehran reading Farsi, English and French at University and at the Iran-America Society.

In 1962 she was appointed Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture.
